Creating art in Virtual Reality

Creating any form of art really isn’t that easy. You have to be innovative and original. You also have to be very talented or at least determined to create art. This is really important when we are talking about creating art in virtual reality. Virtual reality is the term we use to describe a three-dimensional, computer-generated environment. A person can explore and interact with this environment. That person becomes part of this virtual world. The person is also able to manipulate objects or perform a series of actions. This sounds futuristic to you if you haven’t heard about it before. But this sort of entertainment is becoming more and more popular all over the world and people are loving it.

How is virtual reality achieved?

Firstly, we need to understand how we achieve virtual reality in order to start creating art in virtual reality.

There is a range of systems that we use for this purpose, such as headsets, omnidirectional treadmills, and special gloves. We use these to actually stimulate our senses together. This is important in order to create the illusion of reality. All our senses, such as feel, smell, and sound, have to be activated in order for it to be a reality. This is more difficult than it sounds since our senses and brains evolve to provide us with a finely synchronized experience. If anything is even a little off, we can usually tell.

Virtual reality technology needs to take our physiology into account. For example, the human visual field does not look like a video frame. We have (more or less) 180 degrees of vision. Although you are not always consciously aware of your peripheral vision, if it was gone, you’d notice. Try it by putting your hands on the sides of your head not allowing yourself to see anything that isn’t in front of you.

But virtual reality is getting more and more advanced every day. That is exactly why many industries are interested in virtual reality. Currently, there’s a lot of focus on using virtual reality for training purposes, but art is not that far behind.

Why have “a virtual reality”?

So, the next question that pops into mind is “why do we need it?”. And the truth is, we need it for a lot of things. But we use many things that we don’t need and it’s really good to have this branch of technology spread further just because it is so fascinating and interesting. It may seem like a lot of effort, and it is! But is it worth it? Yes! Definitely. Because one day this sort of technology will enable you to do so many things that you aren’t able to do in real life. There is a lot more to come in the future of VR (virtual reality).  Virtual reality can lead to new and exciting discoveries in the areas which impact our day to day lives.

Besides art, what can virtual reality be used for?

Some of the areas are:

A lot of people believe that virtual reality should be embraced by education institutes, such as schools and colleges. There are countless ways VR is being used in education. It is also very helpful in medicine. Students could be able to operate a human being without actually operating a real human being. This is a much safer option. And the students will probably feel less nervous knowing they won’t damage someone’s body.

Creating artworks in virtual reality?

This is a very popular topic that people talk about all the time. Is creating art in virtual reality going to become the only way we can be able to see new art in a few years?

Art is very important for the human race. From the beginning of our existence, people have been creating some sort of art. From drawings on the walls to marvelous sculptures to graffiti. Nowadays more than ever, people seem to become more and more interested in art. Every day of your life you could visit a different art exhibition, and even if you did this for 90 years, you wouldn’t be able to see them all.

But if more and more people start to use virtual reality for creating their art, you could be anywhere in the world and you could see the work of your favorite artist at any moment. But see it in a way that it feels like you are standing in front of it. It is completely different from seeing it on social media and the internet in general.

This would be very helpful for artists, too. If you are an artist, you know how hard it is to have a successful art exhibition. Especially if you are shipping your art overseas, there are so many things that you have to worry about before you ship your art overseas, and by making your art in VR, you wouldn’t have to worry about anything.

Is VR the future of art?

We would say that VR has already become the present. But it definitely is the future, too. In years to come, you will notice more companies using VR in different ways to get your attention. Not only that, but more people will get drawn into this virtual reality world. Maybe, one day, we will be using it for more than just creating art in virtual reality or video games for entertainment. VR could become the only reality we know one day, but it is too early for this kind of theory. The VR era has just begun and we have yet to see what the future holds.
